Speaking

As anyone who knows me will tell you, I like to talk. Just a little bit. I’m a Maritimer and if there’s one thing we can do well, it's talk. We are natural storytellers.

Over the last two years, I have shared my story a lot. For me talking about my experiences just came naturally. And somewhere along the way, I realized that talking about life after loss didn't just help me, it helped those who I was talking to. What an incredible feeling to know that my story somehow touched them and had a positive impact on their lives.

I am honoured I have been asked to share my story with the men and women in uniform who are a part of my military family. If my story helps just one of them, it means something good has come from a tragic loss. A loss they shared with me. My story is their story too.

  1. The Royal Canadian Dragoons were very lucky to be able to pull Monica back to Petawawa for a speaking engagement in September 2016. The Regiment was conducting a professional development session focused on resilience and Monica was our key note speaker. Let me tell you, she did not disappoint.

Monica's heartfelt, witty, and frank storytelling was not only refreshing, but her delivery had us engaged right from the start and relating to her life. Monica's experiences living through the death of her husband lend her a credibility few of us have when it comes to speaking about loss, life after loss, and the resilience needed to move forward. The soldiers I've spoken to have been unanimous in their praise for Monica and her message. I wouldn't hesitate to bring her back to speak to us again.
